Different industries have their own priorities when it comes to localization, but the one we can safely say they all have in common is speed. Being able to localize your content on time without compromising on quality is a goal that all global businesses have, but this becomes more crucial for some than for others, like for the software industry.

Software enterprises require an additional level of agility as a result of their processes.  Having an inflexible, waterfall-model localization strategy can cause costly delays if your release time frames are daily or sometimes even multiple times per day, quite commonplace in the software industry. This makes it very difficult to have all releases available in all languages for all markets on time.

To prevent this situation, software enterprises need to have an agile localization model in place that will allow them to localize newly added or changed software strings on a much more frequent basis, and deliver them in a much shorter time frame. The correlation between volume and speed in localization is, unfortunately, not as simple as “the lower the volume, the faster it gets translated”. There are processes in place, from stakeholder communication to manual tasks, that can cause bottlenecks in the localization effort and compromise short delivery times. 

For this reason, software enterprises need to have a localization strategy underpinned by the right tools and processes that can make it more agile to still meet short turnaround times without affecting the quality of the content. Here are three ways to become more agile:
