Managing Translation Memory in TM Manager

Managing Translation Memory in TM Manager

By using translation memory or “TM” you can dramatically improve the efficiency of your translation process. It ensures that you only have to translate new or modified text. If a segment was translated in the past, the translation memory will offer you a match. If the match is in the same context, then it will be an in context exact match or ICE match, which will be automatically approved. A match in a different context is a leveraged match, which you only need to review. If a segment is similar but not identical, then XTM will offer you a fuzzy match which you can accept and then correct.

You may already have an existing translation memory created from previous translations in other tools. You can leverage these existing TMs by importing them into XTM. XTM accepts Translation Memories in TMX, XLIFF and Excel formats. Click the TM tab and select TM import. Select the customer and the relevant source and target languages within XTM. Locate the file, and simply click Import. If you do not have a translation memory but you have some documents with the same text in different languages, you can align them to create translation memories for these language combinations.

Firstly, to access the Aligner ensure you have the TM Expert role and have Align selected as TM access rights, then select Align from the TM tab. Choose the source and target languages of the documents, select the customer and pick the source and target files. XTM Cloud will generate an alignment file in Excel format that you can correct and upload to create your new translation memory. You can manage your translation memories in the Manage tab. To view the relevant translation memory segments, simply select the customer, the source and target languages and any additional filter or search criteria. Then you will be able to view the segments in the source and target languages along with their approval status plus additional information in a popup window. Here you have the option to delete the segments from the memory change the target language text view the meta data relating to the segment and alter the approval status. It is also possible to perform a find and replace across multiple segments. You can export your translation memories at any time. Navigate to the TM export tab, and you will be able to download your translation memory in TMX, Excel or XLIFF format.
