When Alvaro Morata scored for Spain with ten minutes remaining in their Euro 2021 semi final with Italy last night, he breathed new life into his country’s chances of winning the tournament. An hour later Spanish hopes were dashed, of course, when Morata’s missed spot-kick opened the door for Italy to win a dramatic penalty shoot-out. But that’s the nature of the equalizer.
